The workshop takes place on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delta Career Advancement Center, located at 1696 N. Clearwater Ave., Delta Junction.

    A spring class series hosted by the ÃÛÌÒTVCooperative Extension Service will teach how to create homemade cleaners, pickle vegetables and can last year's frozen meat, fish, berries and fruit. Sarah Lewis, an Extension health, home and family development agent, will also teach a session on exercises to prepare for summer.

    The ÃÛÌÒTVCooperative Extension Service and a state agency are providing information about radon and free short-term radon test kits. Radon is a colorless, odorless cancer-causing gas that is commonly found in Alaska.

    Workshop to discuss diet, exercise for bone health

    Both men and women experience a decrease in bone density with age, increasing the risk of broken bones and frailty. In a Zoom-based class, Sarah Lewis, professor with the ÃÛÌÒTVCooperative Extension Service, will discuss how to eat with bone health in mind. She will also review exercises to maintain bone density and improve balance.

    Health and wellness coach Winona Benson will lead an online presentation designed to transform the way participants shop and eat. Benson, who is certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, will discuss how small, sustainable changes in grocery-buying habits can lead to big results in health and energy, as well as save money.

    Cooperative Extension's Tanana District office moving to new location

    The ÃÛÌÒTVCooperative Extension Service office for the Tanana District, now located at the old University Park building at 1000 University Ave., is moving to a new space in the new year. The office is relocating to Room 205 in the ÃÛÌÒTV Community and Technical College at 604 Barnette St. in downtown Fairbanks.

    Presentation planned on GPS use for recreation

    A free in-person and virtual presentation will discuss how to use a GPS receiver for navigation and safer backcountry travel. Nelson Crone, farm director at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center in Palmer, will provide a basic overview of GPS use for navigation, plus tips and best practices for recreational travel in Alaska.
