Hopkins Fellowship: 2026 Call for Applications

The David and Rachel Hopkins Fellowship supports University of Alaska graduate students conducting interdisciplinary research focusing on the Quaternary Period of Beringia and the North Pacific Rim.

A fellowship of up to $2,000 will be awarded to a graduate student and may be used for up to 12 months after the award date. Funds may be used to cover tuition, supplies, equipment, or other research-related fees, excluding salary.

The fellowship is open to graduate students only. Preference will be given to work directly related to an applicants master’s or Ph.D. research. Preference is given to first-time recipients; more than two awards to the same student are rare and require special justification.

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be graduate students in good academic standing at the University of Alaska
  • Conduct interdisciplinary research focused on the Quaternary Period
  • Address research questions relevant to Beringia and/or the North Pacific Rim
  • Clearly articulate paleo research relevance, including for contemporary process studies
  • Submit a complete application packet as a PDF by 5 pm (AKST), March 27, 2026

To apply, submit:

  • Completed application form
  • Project description (max. 2 pages)
  • Permitting status statement (if applicable)
  • Itemized budget and justification
  • One-page CV
  • Recommendation letter sent directly by a faculty supervisor or committee member to the AQC Director.

The completed application packet should be submitted by email to the AQC Director.
