Seminar on iterative turbine deployment for river energy
ACEP’s Ben Loeffler will give a presentation on BladeRunner iterative deployments.
Every summer since 2021, and ACEP at TV have collaborated to build a new prototype riverine hydrokinetic turbine and test it at TV’s Tanana River Hydrokinetic Test Site.
In his talk, titled “BladeRunner iterative deployments at the Tanana River Test Site,” Ben Loeffler, marine energy lead at ACEP and co-director of the Pacific Marine Energy Center, will share his perspective on the iterative and collaborative technology development process that continues to unfold. He will also highlight the value of field testing, the balance between learning fast and careful rigorous design, and the goals for the project and the test site going forward.
The ACEP and BladeRunner Energy partnership arose when BladeRunner’s unique turbine design appeared to be a good fit for Alaska’s debris-laden rivers. It came to fruition with a successful proposal to Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’s SHARKS, short for Submarine Hydrokinetic and Riverine Kilo-megawatt Systems, program.
When: 1:30 p.m. AKST, Wednesday, March 4.
